After watching the video on edutopia.org called “Teaching Math to Boys” I was inspired to think of ways I could use technology as a classroom management tool. In the video, teacher Tom Wolken uses technology as a way to manage students. He has a count down timer he uses which tels students when to start and end their activity. He also allows students to show how they solved the math problem on a web cam. Students become motivated to get their work done and behave appropriately in order to use the technology. I think in my future classroom I too will provide a web cam or picture viewer for students to show their work. Students will be motivated to use the technology and focus on the task at hand.
Integrating technology in the classroom is important because it supports student learning. Technology in the classroom allows teaching and learning to become more efficient and effective. I intend on using technology to document and assess student learning. I plan on using electronics to play music and audio books. A great center for young children is having an audio device to listen to books while students follow along with the text. Another center could incorporate a pod cast on the computer with directions for an online activity.
